One of the special events held in the city of Cebu City, Philippines is the Sinulog. It's a feast held yearly by Cebuanos in honor of their patron saint, Santo Niño de Cebú. For Cebuanos, the holidays are not over until the Sinulog is over.
Sinulog is a huge event for the city. Parties and a lot of events will be held on this time. Sinulog 2010 will be no different from the previous celebrations of Sinulog. The Sinulog Mardigra will be accompanied by street dancing, company floats and a whole lot more; Major streets will be closed for this grand event. Consequently, large flocks of people will find themselves upon the streets of Cebu City.
Now, I've been through most of the Sinulog events in my life and all I can say is that there are quite a number of things that you'll need to prepare for this festive event. That's why I have come up with a basic guide to the first timers of Sinulog. I've listed quite a few things that you may need for your personal Sinulog 2010 Survival Guide.
1. Eat a Heavy Breakfast.
Yes, you'll be doing a lot of walking on this part and you certainly don't want to miss the most important meal of your day. Don't go without this one.
2. Wear Comfortable Clothes.
Chances are you'll be with the crowd while watching or celebrating Sinulog. This simply means, you'll sometimes find yourself in a tight position. Add the hot sun into this combination and you'll find yourself sweating like a pig if you don't wear comfortable clothing. Also, use a pair of comfortable footwear; for the ladies, don't wear something with high heels...You'll find yourself on the losing end by the middle of the day. Just wear your ordinary walking shoes.
3. Bring Extra Shirts.
In conjunction with the previous guide, you'll definitely need an extra shirt for the Sinulog event. By the end of the day, you'd want to wear something else that's fresh before you head out for the post-event parties.
4. Bring Potable Water.
So, it's a hot day and you're with the crowd. There's nothing refreshing than a gulp of good old fashioned water. So, don't hesitate to bring one. Sure, there will be a lot of bottled water vendors in the streets but usually they overprice for this event alone and it'll eat up your budget before you know it.
5. Bring Money.
Well, this definitely should come in handy especially in the post-event parties where beer and alcohol kicks in. There will be a lot of booze in Sinulog 2010 but it will not be free, so set aside a good budget for this event.
To sum it all up, this survival guide will set you straight for the Sinulog 2010. Enjoy the feast, eat a hearty meal and Pit Senyor to everyone!
